Role

Visual Design Lead
UX/UI Designer

Duration

July 2017 - Jan 2018

Project Goals

Dale Chihuly, an ambitious and talented glass blowing artist, is fascinated by the relationships of colors, lights, and shapes.

In this project, we were tasked to design a new, unified experience that combines Chihuly.com and ChihulyWorkshop.com into a single website. The new design should demonstrate the legacy of Dale Chihuly for current and future audiences, showcase the artwork, educate on the history and impact of Dale Chihuly, and facilitate sales of Studio and Workshop products.

Visual Vision

Throughout the website, users will be able to learn about Dale Chihuly’s life and journey as an artist through beautiful imagery of the work, informative and inspiring video content. Users will also be able to shop, browse and buy artwork and merchandise online.

The artworks shine through the simple design. The fluid nature of the art fills the space with flow and movement. Light and background colors are essential attributes in displaying the artwork. We explored different methods through videos and a 360° display, which features different angles of the artwork that allow users to interact virtually.

I was involved in this project from beginning to end, starting from creating concept design, assisted the UX process, lead the visual design.

Exploring the Interactions

With the interaction and motion design, the site gives a more wholesome experience. I explored these in the Home page and in His Work page. The artworks and information are presented in elegant ways to captivate the users.

To include Chihuly’s experiences and history, we created an interactive page that features the chronological stories. The users are able to click through the topics or the year they wish to explore.

Checkout Flow

The checkout flow is a new feature on the site and users are able to purchase artwork directly from the site. The goal is to create a functional and secure flow to create a sense of security and confidence in completing purchases on the site.
